Your cervix during labor

Transition (7−10cm dilated)

During this phase of labor your contractions will be the strongest and last the longest. At this time, your cervix completes the shortening process and opens fully, which means to 10cm.

Transition is the most challenging, but also the shortest phase of the labor process. 

You may begin to feel pressure in your rectum during transition, this is from your baby coming closer to being born. 

What to expect during transition phase

 

Transition will last about 30 min - 2 hrs

Your cervix will dilate from 8cm to 10cm

Contractions during this phase will last about 60 - 90 seconds with a 30 second - 2 minute rest in between

Contractions are long, strong, intense and can overlap

This is the hardest phase but also the shortest

You might experience hot flashes, chills, nausea, vomiting or gas
